Anonymous account teases a viral "big reveal" then charges ₹500 on Telegram to watch it

Anonymous social media account teases a secret big reveal, directs followers to a Telegram group, then charges ₹500 per person to unlock it. The reveal is worthless AI-generated content. Over ₹5 crore was collected in the August 25, 2026 case.

Also known as: Instagram mystery reveal scam, 25 August 2026 scam, viral Telegram paywall fraud, mystery influencer paid reveal scam, social media hype paywall scam

What to do right now

  1. 1 Do not pay any amount — ₹500 or otherwise — to access a 'reveal' from an anonymous social media account you cannot verify
  2. 2 A legitimate creator, whistleblower, or public interest disclosure never requires payment before sharing the information — real revelations are published freely or through verifiable news channels
  3. 3 If you already paid, report the Telegram channel/bot to Telegram (@notoscam or in-app Report) and file a complaint at https://cybercrime.gov.in or call 1930
  4. 4 Screenshot and preserve the Telegram payment receipt or UPI transaction — this is your evidence for the cybercrime complaint
  5. 5 Report at https://cybercrime.gov.in or call 1930 (national cyber helpline).

Red flags

  • ⚠ Account keeps its face, voice, or identity hidden — claiming 'the real me will be revealed on a specific date' is a classic curiosity hook
  • ⚠ Followers are redirected from a free public platform (Instagram, YouTube) to a private paid Telegram channel — the shift to a payment channel is when the scam activates
  • ⚠ Payment is collected through an unofficial Telegram bot, UPI QR, or personal account — no official company, no receipt, no refund option
  • ⚠ The 'big reveal' date is always near: artificial urgency ('only a few hours left to pay') pressures you before you can think
  • ⚠ The account owner makes vague claims of having crores of rupees, life-changing secrets, or government whistleblower information — verifiable details are never given before payment
