Scammer calls with your name and delivery address because they picked your parcel box from the garbage
Scammers collect discarded e-commerce delivery boxes and harvest shipping label data — your name, mobile, address, and product ordered — then call posing as the company to run targeted cashback or refund phishing.
Also known as: shipping label data scam, parcel box data harvesting fraud, ecommerce delivery box personal data scam, Amazon Flipkart cashback call from stolen label
Already happened to you? Do this in the next few minutes
Call 1930 now- 1 Call 1930 — the national cyber-crime helpline — right now. The sooner you report, the better the chance of freezing the money before it moves.
- 2 Call your bank to freeze the account and block the card immediately. Use the number printed on your card, never a number from the message or caller.
- 3 File a report at cybercrime.gov.in and keep every message, screenshot, and transaction ID.
What to do right now
- 1 Do not share any OTP, UPI PIN, or banking credential with any caller regardless of how much personal detail they have about you
- 2 Verify any cashback or refund offer by logging into the company's official app — never trust a phone call
- 3 Immediately destroy shipping labels before discarding parcel boxes — cut, tear, or black-marker your name, mobile number, and address
- 4 Report at https://cybercrime.gov.in or call 1930 (national cyber helpline).
Red flags
- ⚠ A caller knows your full name, delivery address, and what you recently ordered — but your bank or email confirms no official cashback offer exists
- ⚠ The 'company representative' asks you to verify your UPI PIN, share an OTP, or enter a code on your phone — no legitimate refund or cashback requires this
- ⚠ The call comes from a regular mobile number, not the company's official toll-free or shortcode
- ⚠ The pretext exactly matches a recent order (e.g., 'your electronics order has a ₹500 cashback') — this precision comes from your discarded shipping label, not from a real system
