Fake annual OTT subscription at ₹299 — Netflix, Prime Video, or JioHotstar that never activates

Fraudsters offer fake annual Netflix, Amazon Prime, JioHotstar, or Zee5 subscriptions at ₹299 via WhatsApp or Telegram. Victims pay via UPI; no subscription activates and the group vanishes.

Also known as: fake Netflix subscription scam India, cheap OTT subscription WhatsApp, fake Prime Video plan WhatsApp, JioHotstar fake renewal offer

What to do right now

  1. 1 Never purchase subscriptions outside the official OTT app or website — go directly to netflix.com, primevideo.com, jiohotstar.com, or zee5.com
  2. 2 Report the fake subscription link or group in WhatsApp: long-press the group → Report → 'Report and exit' so Meta blocks the account
  3. 3 If you paid via UPI, file a dispute within 24 hours using your bank's UPI app and also raise a complaint at the NPCI chargeback portal (pgfraud.npci.org.in)
  4. 4 Screenshot the group chat, admin's number, and all payment receipts before the group is deleted — police need these
  5. 5 Report at https://cybercrime.gov.in or call 1930 (national cyber helpline).

Red flags

  • ⚠ Annual subscription for Netflix/Prime Video/JioHotstar at ₹99–₹399 advertised in a WhatsApp or Telegram group — no legitimate OTT platform runs unsolicited group promotions
  • ⚠ Payment via UPI QR code or link shared in the group chat — OTT platforms only accept payments through their official apps or websites
  • ⚠ After you pay, an 'activation code' is promised within 24–48 hours that never arrives
  • ⚠ Group admin stops responding and eventually leaves or the group gets deleted
  • ⚠ Same offer circulates across multiple unrelated groups, or the same number runs different 'scheme' groups simultaneously
