Fake logistics agent collects advance UPI payment to "book a truck" — no vehicle ever arrives

Fraudsters pose as representatives of known logistics or transport companies on business directories, collect advance UPI payment to 'book a truck or tempo', then vanish. Small businesses lose ₹5,000–₹50,000; no transport is ever dispatched.

Also known as: fake truck booking scam India, fake logistics company advance fraud, advance payment transport fraud India, Justdial transport agent scam, IndiaMart logistics fraud India

What to do right now

  1. 1 Before paying, verify the logistics company's GST registration number at gst.gov.in and search for their physical office address
  2. 2 Search the company name and phone number on Google with 'scam' or 'fraud' before transacting
  3. 3 Prefer transport vendors with an established track record, formal invoices, and verifiable MCA or GST registration
  4. 4 Pay only after the vehicle arrives at your premises or after verifying the driver's ID and truck registration number in person
  5. 5 If you paid and no vehicle arrived, file a complaint at https://cybercrime.gov.in or call 1930 immediately
  6. 6 Report at https://cybercrime.gov.in or call 1930 (national cyber helpline).

Red flags

  • ⚠ Contact found only on business directory listings (Justdial, IndiaMart, Google Business) with no verifiable GST number, TAN, or physical address
  • ⚠ Advance UPI payment is requested before any vehicle is dispatched or any verifiable booking reference is issued
  • ⚠ Communication is WhatsApp or mobile only — no registered company email, no letterhead, no formal invoice
  • ⚠ Price quoted is significantly below market rate for the same route or vehicle type
  • ⚠ Caller insists payment must be made immediately to 'hold' the truck before another customer books it
