Crypto 'Key Opinion Leader' promises discounted token allocation but never delivers
A self-styled crypto influencer with Telegram followers offers 'pre-listed discounted tokens' via OTC deals. After receiving USD or crypto, they deliver nothing. India's ED is probing a ₹337 crore ($35M) Bengaluru case.

Already happened to you? Do this in the next few minutes
Call 1930 now- 1 Call 1930 — the national cyber-crime helpline — right now. The sooner you report, the better the chance of freezing the money before it moves.
- 2 Call your bank to freeze the account and block the card immediately. Use the number printed on your card, never a number from the message or caller.
- 3 File a report at cybercrime.gov.in and keep every message, screenshot, and transaction ID.
What to do right now
- 1 Do not transfer funds to any individual for token allocations — legitimate pre-market rounds go through regulated platforms or direct project websites, never a middleman's personal account
- 2 Search the token name + 'scam' or 'fraud' before investing; check if the KOL is registered with SEBI or any recognised exchange
- 3 If you transferred funds, preserve all Telegram/WhatsApp messages, wallet addresses, and transaction receipts — these are critical evidence
- 4 File a complaint at your local cybercrime police station and attach evidence; tag your report for PMLA / ED if the amounts are large
- 5 Report at https://cybercrime.gov.in or call 1930 (national cyber helpline).
Red flags
- ⚠ Someone with a Telegram following claims 'insider access' to pre-listed tokens from well-known blockchain projects at steep discounts
- ⚠ They propose a private OTC deal — bypassing any exchange — and ask for USDT or a USD wire transfer upfront
- ⚠ A few small deals complete legitimately at first; then a large deal fails and the 'KOL' stops responding or blames 'exchange listing delays'
- ⚠ The offer is presented as exclusive, time-limited, and only available through them directly
