A caller claims to be the NDIA and threatens to cancel your NDIS access unless you verify now
Scammers call NDIS participants impersonating NDIA staff, plan managers, or support coordinators, claiming a debt on the participant's plan and threatening cancellation unless personal details are provided. Fake invoices are also sent to participants redirecting payments. The NDIA never threatens to cancel access over a debt by phone.
Also known as: fake NDIA call Australia, NDIS plan cancellation threat scam, fake NDIS plan manager, NDIA impersonation call, NDIS invoice fraud
Already happened to you? Do this in the next few minutes
- 1 Call your bank or card's fraud line right now. Use the number on the back of your card — not any number from the message or caller. Ask them to stop or reverse the payment and freeze the account.
- 2 If you paid by gift card, wire, or an app (Zelle, Venmo, Cash App): contact that company immediately and report it as fraud. Acting fast sometimes recovers the money.
- 3 Report to the FBI at ic3.gov and the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov. The sooner, the better.
What to do right now
- 1 Hang up. The NDIA never calls to threaten cancellation of NDIS access over a debt — any such call is a scam
- 2 Call the NDIA directly on 1800 800 110 (8 am–8 pm AEST, Mon–Fri) using this number — do not call back the number that rang you
- 3 Before paying any invoice from a provider, call that provider back on their listed contact number (not the number on the invoice) to confirm they sent it and that the bank details are correct
- 4 Never give your Medicare number, TFN, myGov credentials, or bank details to an unexpected caller, even one who claims to know details about your plan
- 5 If you have already shared personal details, contact IDCARE on 1800 595 160 for free identity fraud support
- 6 Report to Scamwatch at https://www.scamwatch.gov.au/report-a-scam or ReportCyber at https://www.cyber.gov.au/report.
